Freedom of speech is a very important freedom given by the Bill of Rights, perhaps one of the most important. I believe that when this amendment was put into place an optimistic view was placed on Americans resulting in too broad a playing field for those citizens without consideration of others. In a way, the freedom did go too far. Now, with the restrictions placed on the “freedom of speech” I believe there is more control. As a child who suffered from racism through school and many other harassing situations, I support the restrictions on freedom of speech. My children will grow up in the same country where people have become more vocal on their opinions whether it be positive or negative.
I also believe separation of church and state IS necessary. There are many religious people in the nation, but just as well there are many who are not involved in religion. In order for these citizens to all feel the same equality (whether they admit this or not) I believe it is only fair to keep the separation in order.
I also believe defendant’s rights ARE crucial. (Apparently I see no flaws with the Bill of Rights! Go me!) Just as everyone who has been victimized deserves just representation, so do those who victimized others. If we still chose to hang someone without allowing for a trial or opportunity to plead their case, there would be many innocent people punished for crimes that were either made up completely or unjustly placed upon their shoulders. It is important for these rights to be in place.

I also believe defendants rights are crucial also. I think every who has victimized deserves representation and the ones that have been victimized others too. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the freedom of speech. It is so sad to see kids now go throught what they do. Children are so cruel to each other and say some pretty nasty things. I believe alot of the children act that way because they hear there parents say cruel things about other people. I think its important to have freedom of speech but I think people should be more considerate.
ReplyDeleteI, too, agree with your opinion on freedom of speech. I plan on home schooling my now 6 month old daughter. Bullying is a huge issue in today's school system. I hate seeing children as young as 12 taking their own lives because of bullying. I also agree that separation of church and state is necessary.
ReplyDeleteI agree with number 1. Stating opinions is one thing but using your freedom of speech to harass and bully someone is unacceptable. I hope new laws will be implemented to protect people from bullying. Not necessarily limiting the freedom of speech but making it so people don't damage others with their words.
ReplyDeleteI am kind of on the fence about statement 2 dealing with the religion out of schools because we as it a culture have been so quick to have a get away from religion attitude when it comes to any thing why not find interesting ways to let children grow and learn different ideas without keeping important family values in the closet. I understand some people choose not to practice a religion but that should not alienate people from intelligent conversation, most people do not practice because they do not know about different religions.
