Our Senators are Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker and our
Congressman is Charles J. “Chuck” Fleischman. In 2009 Lamar Alexander opposed
Obama’s bill regarding health care reform. His opposition was based on the
consequence of higher state taxes, higher federal debt, health care run by the
government, and cuts in Medicare. I support his views on this and agree with
his reasons. As we have already seen in the news, Obama is blasting apologies
with the horrible health care and the issues of many losing insurance
completely. He also voted against a bill that would have created more detailed
and expanded background checks for any person purchasing guns. While I do not
think the government has the right to take away guns from the citizens, I do
believe there should be much stricter background checks for those attempting to
purchase one. In my small town, I’ve heard of so many who can walk in, lay cash
down, and walk out with any type of weapon (mainly guns of any kind) in less
than five minutes. This whole process never includes any paperwork, background
check, or legal requirements whatsoever.

I agree with you. I think there should probably be a stricter background check to receive a gun, however I don’t feel like that would make a difference. I personally think we should make a passing psychological test be required to receive a gun. Someone could have a clean record, and be someone thought to never hurt a fly, but if they have a mental illness, then they should not have a gun. I know that would make a lot of people mad, but I would feel much safer knowing that a sane person is buying a gun.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Alexander's stand on the healthcare issue. I had a feeling when it was first mentioned that it would not work, but what do I know, I'm only a mom. I also agree that there should be better checks before someone buys a gun. But where I live there is paperwork when you buy a gun and your information is entered online. The first couple of weapons I bought, I was even fingerprinted.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with you on the gun laws. I dont necesarily think they should have stricter laws I think they should just enforce the ones they have. THere really is no reason to have more laws. THey already do background checks. It sounds like your town need to enforce the laws. That is scary that they are just handing them out but that doesnt happen everywhere. For instance I just got my carry permit and I had to go through classes and fingerprinting. I do agree with you on the health insurance. It seems to be all over the place and I dont understand how anyone could find it fair.
ReplyDeleteI do agree with you on the background checks for gun ownership. I was listening to NPR (National Public Radio) when the 2nd amendment rights were being discussed. The statistics was overwelming. The back ground checks are a good idea for someone who is abiding by the law, but someone who isn't, after the background checks are done and denied sadi individual will acquire one illegally. NPR stated that there is 3.5 million missing, stolen guns and unaccounted weapons from the manufacturs. This blew my mind.
ReplyDeleteGreat Post!!
I agree that there should be more laws on owning guns. I believe that everyone should have the right to own a gun but only if they abide by the law. That's the problem with allowing guns. People who aren't responsible enough to have this privilege are able to get ones. Like I said, I think we should have the right to bear arms but there should be background checks to make sure criminals don't have easy access to the guns.
