I’ve never really put much weight on political parties even though I was raised in a home where my parents were adamant on which side of the spectrum they belonged on. However, if I were to place myself on a side of it, I feel I most identify with the Republican Party. There are many things that I agree with and even some that I disagree with. While many place a religious purpose to their party choice, I feel it makes more sense to decide for myself based on my own life choices and for my family. I absolutely oppose abortion and believe it should be illegal in all states, I do not, however, have a standpoint on gay marriage. They will marry if they feel it is right and there is nothing we can or should do about that. To each his own. I support the death penalty because there are many, many crimes so vile and disgusting that allowing some to live and relish the memories of such seems preposterous. I believe there is more importance in individual rights such as gun control than to choose for groups as a whole. I also support higher military spending and having a strong belief in fighting for our country when faced by a serious threat.
I think America wouldn’t function well without political parties. As I discussed in my business class this past week, I believe labels carry a lot of weight in the world today. Although this label isn’t necessarily a money label, a lot of people feel these party titles carry tremendous weight. They are connected with some very large issues and beliefs involved in how our country is run and fundamentals. The idea of not using political parties seems an interesting idea; the founders had a lot of faith in the future of our country and in the strength of the citizens. However, it is hard to foresee the controversy on many issues and as time goes on, generations evolve and more issues and ideas rise up for people to choose a side on.
From what little I have read on other third parties, I felt I kind of related to the Reform Party better. They seem to have somewhat similar beliefs (but not mirrored of course). .

great job, I agree that their should be a death penalty, for those vile crimes in which punishment is deserved, I really do not care for anything that involves political anything, but great job on your blog.
ReplyDeleteI would also consider myself a republican but I would mainly because I am a christian and have similar beliefs to the conservative side. I do not believe in abortion but I also dont believe in gay marriage although that has to do with my religion.i also support the death penalty and believe the military should fight for our country if need be.
ReplyDeleteI also see myself as a Republican Party support. I believe there should be a Death Penalty (automatic for murder and violent, abuse crimes against children), Military spending should be high on everyone's list, including democrats due to that fact our Military are defending your home and counrty too. I both agree and disagree with abortion. If conception is caused from a criminal or molestation act, I think the victim should have the choice. It seems that the chance of neglect, abuse or resentment may be higher towards the child. That in no means is the case for any or all situations. Just my opinion. If the conception is from unprotected sex with one or more partners, the individual shouldd have to live with that choice.
ReplyDeleteI feel like political parties are important too. I feel like we need to have basic set of beliefs. I think people would care about vote if they had to sit and listen to the candidate say their beliefs. So it good to know there are certain issue you know aren't going to change will that party. It good to have a base, but I think there should be some wiggle room with the beliefs.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on many points. I think that the death penalty should be enforced for heinous crimes, especially ones against children. I also do not believe that we should we able to tell someone who they can and cannot marry. I don't understand why gay marriage is such a big deal. Two people in love should be able to get married. Doesn't matter who they are. I'm typically against abortion. I cannot imagine killing what would become a baby. If someone is unable to take care of the baby, there's always adoption. However, in rape cases I'm unsure. I still think it's wrong but I can understand why they would feel the need to do so.
